You are invited to join us for a fun and relaxing weekend at Santa Cruz Island
(Channel Islands National Park).


On Friday August 11th, we will be leaving from Ventura Harbor around 9am for the
quick trip across the channel to Santa Cruz Island. We will board an Island
Packers boat and they will stow our camping gear and unload it once we arrive.
The round trip cost is $75.00 per camper and reservations should be made early in
advance. We have a reserved campsite for 6 people at Scorpion Ranch
Campground which is an easy ½ mile walk from the dock where the boat will drop
us off. There are no stores, trash cans or phones on the island so you need to carry
in and carry out all your gear and trash.


Our campground is set among a grove of trees so there is plenty of shade and there
are bathrooms with running water but there are no showers. There is water at the
campground for washing and drinking. Unfortunately, campfires are not allowed
but this weekend coincides with the Persied meteor shower and we plan to hike to
an open spot and watch mother nature's light show. This is the largest meteor
shower of the year and we can expect to see over 100 shooting stars per hour!
On my last trip in February, we saw many whales and dolphins on the trip across
and once on the island we hiked all over the east end. There are trails for all levels
of fitness and there are some amazing overlooks that take a little effort to get to but
are well worth it. There is a large bay that is safe for swimming or just hanging out
by the water. There are also kayaks available for rent if you reserve in advance.
The boat will return on Sunday around 4pm to pick us up and we should be back in
Ventura no later than 6pm.
